Marine Micro-Algae (Algal) Oil for Skin - 40% DHA
Micro-Algae Oil, often referred to as Algal oil, is a vegan-friendly alternative to animal-derived sources of Omega-3 essential fatty acids.
Algal oil provides a substitute for fish and fish oil. It’s an oil made from certain types of microalgae scientifically known as Schizochytrium sp.
Usually, fish consume these microalgae and convert them into essential fatty acids that get stored in their tissue, which you eat. Algal oil skips the fish altogether.
Marine Micro-Algae (Algal) Oil Uses and Benefits for Skin
Algal oil, a plant-based option of omega-3 essential fatty acids is becoming increasingly popular in cosmetics, skin and hair care, and massage industries, as research discovers potential benefits when applied directly to skin, such as deep moisturization, anti-aging properties, unclogging of the pores, and improving discoloration.
Two of the most important omega-3 fatty acids contained in algal oil are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). These fatty acids are also known to fight inflammation (swelling) in skin.
Anyone who struggles with overly dry or oily skin may see a significant benefit from algae oil skin care treatments due to algae’s ability to regulate sebum (oil) production in skin. By properly regulating the production of sebum, algae can ensure that skin is properly hydrated without becoming too greasy or oily. Thus, Omega-3 is also important in reducing and preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids in algae also makes it great for preventing dry skin and helping to combat skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne.
Marine Micro-Algae (Algal) Oil Specs
Algal oil contains – 40% (minimum) Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and has a bright orange to red appearance with a characteristic (marine) aroma and flavor profile, varying in viscosity depending on the temperature in which its stored in.
High DHA algae oil has a similar viscosity as vegetable oils at 95 degrees F (35 degrees C) or higher. When algae oil is stored at cooler temperatures (86 degrees F or 30 degrees C and lower), the viscosity of the material will increase due to naturally occurring saturated fatty acids. The presence of these solids will increase as the temperature decreases, having a direct impact on the overall viscosity of algae oil.
