Tonka Bean absolute oil, also known as Cumaru or Kumaru essential oil, is a concentrated extract obtained from the fruit seeds (beans) of Dipteryx odorata tropical tree, sustainably cultivated in Brazil.
Tonka Bean absolute oil is a thick liquid, has a has a brown color, exhibits a profound, caramel-like, powdery-sweet and slightly nutty aroma, reminiscent of Caramel, Almond and Vanilla, and is one of the finest perfume ingredients for fixation of natural perfumes.
Tonka beans contain Coumarin, a compound first isolated from this plant, and named for it. Coumarin is responsible for the pleasant odor of beans, which led the perfume industry to label these extracts in the Gourmand family.
